Conservation or Restoration?

What's the difference?

Conservation

Conservation deals with stopping the progress of ageing and deterioration.  To aid this, we can:

  • dry mount paper
  • cotton line large documents
  • reline canvas
  • dry mounting

Restoration

Restoration is then the art of reversing the ageing process and restoring an article to its former glory.  We can:

  • repair wormholes and tears
  • restore colour loss
  • remove foxing and watermarks
  • acidity burn mark removal
  • mildew damage reversal
